There is a phrase that has been on my mind a lot in the last little while “I can always make more money, but I cannot make more time.” I read this sentence a long time ago somewhere, and it’s been in the back of my head (yes, lots of information swirling around in that brain of mine), but lately this sentence has been very actively on my mind.
168 Hours is the exact amount of hours we have each week, you, me… everyone. What counts is how we spend them. There is a great quote by H. Jackson Brown: “Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson and Albert Einstein.”
So the question becomes, are those 168 hours each week in our lives well spent? Are we spending them with purpose or just being busy? Living in a world that’s full of distractions (did you know that the average Facebook user spends over 7 hours each month alone on that site?), it’s easy for the hours in the day to just fly by.
In business it’s all too common to be pulled in many different directions during a workday, especially being an entrepreneur, we often wear many different hats during any given day. But with the amount of time we spend on seemingly urgent tasks (which may not always be important), we can sometimes lose focus on what we should be doing – taking time for the tasks that are important (yes, they may not always be urgent, but left undone, they will keep a business from moving forward).
My time is my most valuable resource I can offer to share with anyone, be that a client, a friend and of course my family. I deeply value the time that someone else gives to me as I know that they share a non-replaceable resource with me.
How do you choose to spend your next 168 hours?
